If you want to stay longer mentally fresh and prevent mental deterioration, it is important to consciously return to childhood mischief!
As we age, we become more and more rigid. Both physically, mentally and emotionally, and very often spiritually.
Do the statements sound familiar to you: I studied enough during school; I do not change my principles; I don’t have time for such nonsense (hobby);
Unlike us elders, children are playful, open, flexible, curious, happy for no particular reason, have a great capacity for learning, are resourceful, and creative.
Studies confirm that freshness of mind until old age is possible with regular practice to be like children again (but not childish).
The most important thing is that you consciously live the childish nature in a beautiful form and do not give room for childish behavior in old age (pouting, stubbornness, loss of memory and then relearning, forgetting learned functions – eating, personal hygiene, orientation).
Key reasons why games are important and useful:
Maintaining cognitive function: Playing games that require concentration, strategy, or memory, such as puzzles, board games, or even video games, helps preserve cognitive function. These activities can slow the decline of memory and mental flexibility, which is important in the prevention of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Reducing stress and anxiety: Games provide an opportunity to relax, distracting from everyday worries and challenges. This reduces stress levels and can contribute to relaxation and a more positive mood.
Improving social connection: Games are often social activities that allow people to spend time with family and friends. Social interaction reduces feelings of loneliness and isolation. This strengthens the sense of community and support.
Maintaining emotional stability: Playing games and engaging in creative activities can help express emotions in a healthy way. Games often evoke laughter and joy, which increases levels of happy hormones such as dopamine and serotonin, helping to maintain optimism and emotional stability.
Encouraging physical activity: Some games, such as nature walks or sports games, help to maintain physical activity. Regular physical activity supports mental health by reducing the risk of depression and improving general well-being.
Specific tips to revive childhood games and creativity in adulthood:
Organize a fun themed game night or organize a social outing like bowling, mini-golf, sledding, snowball, beach volleyball, kite flying.
Collecting joy: Find a collection that makes you happy, such as postcards, napkins, stamps or coins, and enjoy your favorite setting.
Express yourself creatively: paint or make something. There are many coloring books with beautiful mandalas and pictures that you can color. This calms the mind and reduces stress. Focus on the process, not the end result; the goal is relaxation and fun.
Be playful with your friends, play music and dance intuitively, sing loudly, do pantomime. It is important to be relieved.
Bring humor back into your day and laugh: Tell jokes, read comic strips, visit a stand-up comedy show and let the laughter wash over you. Find courses or clubs in your area.
Explore and be curious just like children when they are looking for adventures.
Learn from children: spend time with them, playing at their level and not demanding that they adapt to us and immediately be old men, not to be spotted, to speak nicely, to sit, not to cry. Their enthusiasm and imagination can help you see the world through brighter, childlike eyes.
All these activities encourage joy, creativity, connection and curiosity, and are important for mental health and vitality. They provide numerous psychological and social benefits.
We are all on that road to adulthood. In order for old age not to be gray, sad, limiting or simply an age to be put off until death, it is important that we consciously program ourselves what kind of age we want to live.
I see myself as mobile, vital and supple even in old age. Where I joyfully embrace learning new things, and my capacity for love, joy, relief, and wisdom grows.
How do you see yourself!?
