In this day and age, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the incredible offer of counselors, therapists, mentors, and life coaches. Deciding whether to go to a holistic counselor, NLP coach, psychologist, alternative therapist, or someone who combines multiple approaches can be confusing.
How to choose the advisor who will help you the most?
Knowing yourself
The first step is to be clear about your needs. What kind of help or therapy are you looking for? What qualities do you want in your advisor and what goals do you want to achieve through cooperation? By determining the framework in advance, you “program” yourself and create a blueprint – an imprint in consciousness that strives for self-fulfillment.
Your inner strength
For me personally, the most important moment is that someone trains me and helps me find myself and my inner strength. To connect with my inner intelligence and to independently lead my life later without fear of making mistakes.
In the introductory conversation or introduction of a counselor, therapist, you can already sense or feel how that person functions. If this is not the case and you start working with someone, and it turns out that it is a person who imposes on you answers and solutions that are correct in her opinion, and you do not perceive them as correct within yourself – that is not the person for you. It’s okay to talk to her about it, to confront her, or to back off.
Experience and specialization
Experienced counselors have been through their own life challenges. Find out about their experience and specialization. What areas are closest to them?
People who have overcome certain difficulties can provide you with valuable support and advice on exactly those topics. Those who have overcome the crisis of quitting smoking, bad diet, toxic relationship, can tell us with certainty what that experience looks like, what to pay attention to, where the traps are and how best to get out of the situation with minimum damage and maximum benefit.
Realistic expectations

„Big promises” is an alarm sign. Quality counselors know that change is a process, not a magic formula. They work with you on an individual level, and the effect depends not only on their competence, but also on your willingness to go further in your development. Sometimes it also means rejecting the benefit you have from your condition (disease, problem) in order to introduce a new category – a healthy response to challenges.
Finally, it is important to remember that there is no “wrong” choice. Every meeting with a counselor or therapist brings with it an opportunity for personal growth and self-awareness.
My approach is not a magic solution in two moves, but a support for discovering one’s own strength and authenticity. I want you to become able to lead your life in the best possible way, without fear of mistakes and criticism of others.
I hope this guide helps you choose the right counselor or therapist for your needs. In working with me, you can expect honesty and support on the way to your own healing and growth.
